Another sunny Worthing weekend, another brilliant, local event that the Worthing Community Chest has helped to fund. This time it was the Broadwater Carnival & Worthing Fire Station Open Day, a title grand enough for its own proceedings.

When, only a few years ago, someone suggested that the two events run together, we should all be grateful that the fire service didn’t pour cold water on the idea.

By the time we gathered onstage for the presentation of our massive cheque, there were so many dignitaries and celebrities squeezed warmly together that I had to sit on the floor. I know my place. I can’t compete with the Mayor and Lady Mayor, the High Sheriff, the Chief Fire Officer, the Youth Mayor and the Deputy Youth Mayor, Masterchef 2018 winner Kenny Tutt, Carnival Chair Ann Barlow and several mime artists from the committee.

Actually, I don’t think they were all there just to pose for our photograph. They were there, just like thousands of others, to enjoy one of Worthing’s biggest days out. You’d probably walked 5k by the time you got around all the stalls and attractions. Congratulations to everyone involved in putting on such a fabulous community event. See you next year!
