A New Gallery for Worthing

One of the exciting projects we were able to provide funds for last year was to convert the Visitors’ Centre at Highdown Gardens into a flexible gallery space where local artists can exhibit their work. This extends the use of the wonderful visitors’ centre and provides much-needed additional gallery capacity for Worthing artists. Visitors to the gardens will benefit from the added attraction of having beautiful artworks to view during their visits and this will, in turn, benefit the Gardens and exhibitors at the gallery.

Our input

We were asked to provide funding for repainting the space and purchasing the gallery hanging system. This system allows exhibited artworks to temporarily take the place of the information and education pieces that normally inhabit the space. We were able to grant funds of just under £1500 and the end result is a fantastic and adaptable space that will benefit Worthing artists, residents and visitors alike.

A beautiful, natural setting

One of the most delightful aspects of this beautiful new gallery space is its setting, which is beautiful in its own right but is an appropriate setting for any artist whose work focuses on the natural world. With incredible heritage, a collection of wonderful plants from around the world, and stunning views of our beautiful South Downs National Park and the sea, Highdown Gardens is a Worthing treasure, and a perfect setting for this new gallery.

The launch

We were delighted to attend the launch of the inaugural exhibition displayed at Highdown Gallery. “In Bloom” is a wonderful collection of luscious floral images by fine art photographer Steve Gallagher. Beautiful and timeless, this wonderful exhibition is the perfect choice to launch this fantastic new gallery space for Worthing.
