They used the grant funds to install a kitchen in their Social Hub, a lovely space where Allotment users can socialise. Hot drinks and snacks can now be prepared which extends the use of the attractive wooden building. Other community groups can use the Hub and, when we visited, Home-Start Arun, Worthing & Adur were enjoying story-time.
The group provides support and opportunities for other local charities West Sussex Mind, The SAND Project and Guild Care as well as providing space for community groups to meet.
A wonderful sense of community exists at the Allotments and allotment holders are clearly very supportive of one another. They have converted several plots for accessible gardening and divided some to provide smaller, more manageable areas. There are plots suitable for every type of gardener.
They have opportunities for individuals, groups and charities to take on allotments should they wish to. Contact the group for information on how to apply for a plot.
