On a gorgeous sunny Winter’s day, WCC trustees visited Worthing United Youth FC at Hillbarn Recreaton Ground. They presented a cheque for a recently awarded grant of £1500 from Worthing Community Chest.

It was lovely to see so many young club members playing energetically on the pitches. There was a decided air of excitement in the run up to the end of term and Christmas!

We awarded £1,500 to help with the next phase of their Clubhouse project. This will link the rooms together and weatherproof the building. Club director Doug Taylor told us that completing this phase of the build will unlock funding for the next phase, to ensure the club’s future financial sustainability. Watch out for their January “SOS” call-out for trades’ volunteers to complete this in record time!

The Club and its supporters are working tirelessly, fundraising and volunteering to bring the Clubhouse project to fruition. They are a remarkable club, the largest youth football club in Sussex with over 500 members from 5 to 18. What they do is inspiring!

The Club believe football is for all and have teams suitable for every child and pathways to the senior club. Their girls’ teams have been County Cup and National Futsal Champions and players have represented Brighton and Hove Albion and England U17s. They have SEND sessions for ages 5-16.

We are so delighted to be able to support such an admirable and beneficial project which will do so much for the young people and community of Worthing.
